And they all lived happily ever after...
Or did they?

One of the most frequent problems among people playing ToS for the first time is exactly what the hell the different endings are and how to get them. Which is where I come in, take a look around, and abruptly leave...I mean, help. ^__^

The Differences in Endings

Basically, there are two paths you can take, one path just has many more options. Don't get confused, it's not that hard!

At Flanoir, if you go outside with Kratos, you have chosen the Kratos ending. If you go outside with anyone else, you have chosen the Zelos ending.

Why does this matter so much? Well, look below for differences between endings, and also...

Specially in the Kratos Path
-You have to fight Zelos and kill him. :(
-No one stands up for Lloyd when he's fighting Kratos.
-You recieve Kratos' locket.
-Colette gets possessed by Mithos.
-Kratos faces Lloyd in the Welgaia scene.
-Kratos will be the eighth member of your party.
-Kratos gets his Cruxis Judgement outfit.
-There is a skit in Triet and a small scene by Lloyd's statue in Luin avaliable.
-On the ending screenshot where it says "Fin...", Kratos is standing there instead of Zelos.

Specially for the Zelos Path
-Zelos betrays you, and you have to fight some lame-ass angels. He later comes back.
-Zelos is the eighth member in your party.
-see "differences between endings" for the rest.

I should have made this clear by now, but if not....

Kratos Path, you go outside with...

-Kratos

Zelos Path, you can go oustide with...

-Colette
-Genis
-Raine
-Zelos
-Presea
-Regal
-Sheena

Whoever you go outside with in Flanoir is your soulmate.

Differences In Endings

Whoever you go outside in Flanoir with...

*talks to Lloyd at the night in Heimdall before Torent Forest
*defends Lloyd before he fights Kratos
*gets possessed by Mithos (most amusing if it's a guy)
*besides Lloyd, is the only one who doesn't have one of those "temptation" scenes at Welgaia (with Kratos, he faces Lloyd O.o)
*gets a teensy bit of screen at the very ending (after the credits, when Noishe comes up to Lloyd at Dirk's House)

Little Stuff Affected by Affection

-If you run out of hearts trying to get Spiritua's Statue, the character with the highest affection will save you. It's quite amusing, acutally.

-In the Remote Island Human Ranch, whoever likes you the least will be the bait, while whoever likes you the most will jump on the Desians with you.

-In the Shadow Temple, whoever likes you the most will say something when you go into the room with the thingy that changes the function of the Sorceror's Ring.

-In the Colisuem, whoever likes you the most will give you a pep talk when Lloyd fights in the Singles Arena.

-At Dirk's House at the beginning of Disc 2, whoever likes you the most will have a special conversation with ya. (If Zelos likes you best, it's an AWESOME conversation.)

-At Altessa's house, during the "bloodline" scene, if Zelos likes you the most, he'll come out and cheer you on. With anyone else, you get Colette. >.>

-In the scene right before fighting Mithos, whoever got possessed will make a strange noise as Mithos' Cruxis Crystal floats over to Yggdrasill. *shrugs* Worth mentioning, I suppose.

For Collector's Book Questers...

-On Kratos' ending, you get "Kratos' Locket."
-On Zelos' ending, you get "Chosen's Orb."
-On Colette's ending, you get "Snow Hare."

In the Tower of Salvation, when Lloyd is all by his little self and runs across the bridge, dodging all the arrows, he'll either dodge the arrow at the end, or--if you get Kratos, Zelos or Colette--the arrow will hit the item. It's kind of funny, actually. I thought Lloyd had died or something, and started laughing my head off. But maybe that's just me.

But You Still Haven't Told Us How To Get the Different Endings!

I know, I know, I'm getting there. When you go to Flanoir, the people who knock on the door have the highest affection for you. This is determined by three things...

*the points in the dialogue where you can pick what to say
*skit points (not normal skits, the glowing circles on the world map)
*a couple sidequests

Okay, this is where it gets hairy. Most of the time, the characters will let you know which option in the dialogue they want you to pick. But as a general rule...

~Colette
Pick like a goody two shoes. By default, Colette likes you the most, so it's not that hard.
~Genis
Genis likes you a lot as well. Unless you make it your sole duty to piss him off (which can be fun), or you get Zelos' affection very high, you shouldn't have any problems. He often agrees with Colette.
~Raine
Raine will usually let you know which option she wants you to pick. It's often the one that hurts everyone else's feelings, but she agrees with Kratos a lot of the time.
~Sheena
Hmmm...don't know much about Sheena. I'm guessing she usually agrees with Colette and Genis, however. Check somewhere else to be certain. *sweatdrop*
~Zelos
For some reason, Zelos is the hardest to get. He's tricky. Sometimes he agrees with Colette, but in the beginning of the game, whatever options Raine picks are usually his choices as well. Answer bad to everyone else in skit points, and be sure to do the lost child in Sybak sidequest. Don't be surprised if you don't get him, especially if you sort of half-tried.
~Presea
On my first playthrough, I didn't try for anyone, and I got Presea. No idea how. Just go skit point hunting, and answer good to her. She's not particularly hard to get. As for dialogue options...pick whatever you like, I dunno. (I'm not very helpful, am I?)
~Regal
Again...skit points. There are a lot for him and Presea in Tethe'alla, or it seemed like it to me. He's not very hard, either. I had him as my soulmate in no time. ^_^
